Walkers Pure Butter Shortbread

Walkers Pure Butter Shortbread

Holy cow!  Have you seen these cookies in the store?  If you haven’t tried them before, get off your butt and go buy them.  Divine!  Walkers shortbread cookies are perfectly buttery, not greasy, and deliciously crunchy.  They are perfect with jams and jellies (as shown in my Spiced Elderberry Jam recipe), fruit, or just on their own for a decadent treat.  I found them at Walmart, but I’m sure they are carried elsewhere too.

Walkers Scottish Shortbread Desciption

The back of the box reads, “Walkers Pure Butter Shortbread is baked in the secluded village of Aberlour, Speyside, in the heart of the Scottish Highlands.  The shortbread is produced to a traditional recipe which has been handed down through generations of the Walker family.  Walkers personally guarantee that this product is made using only the finest ingredients possible to obtain and contains no artificial colours, flavourings or preservatives.”

Walkers Pure Butter Shortbread Ingredients

Now this is where things get good.  Simple, pure, honest.  This is why Walkers shortbread cookies are so perfect and delicious.

Ingredients:  Wheat Flour, Butter, Sugar, Salt.

Done.  No chemicals, no preservatives, no fake flavorings, no added color.  Just pure ingredients with perfect ratios.  Why isn’t everything like this?

Walkers Pure Butter Shortbread Nutrition Facts

There is a price for eating something this perfect, but that price isn’t paid in health complications from artificial crap, preservatives, and highly processed junk.  Rather, it is simply paid in calories.  I can burn off calories.  I can’t really burn off processed chemicals.  So eat up; just go for a walk afterwards.

  • From Holland….absolutely amazing….me and my sons ate them today for the first time….fantastic.
Tasted like my mothers cookies when I was 6…the best!!!!

  • My grandma always gave me these when I was a kid. Haven’t had one for years. I’ll have to look at Walmart next time I’m there.

  • Walkers are indeed incredible. For some reason (perhaps the richness) you don’t want to sit down and devour a whole box like you do with other cookies. A small scoop of raspberry sorbet and a couple of Walkers is a great dessert. OR, a nice glass of scotch? Now we are talking terroir pairing…

Even though high in calories, food like this will not make you as fat as processed food with lots of chemicals added. Easy reason here: liver encounters chemicals and essentially does triage. Chemicals need to be filtered first, therefore fat calories are sent directly to cells to be dealt with later. When no chemicals present, liver deals with fat immediately, breaking it down into metabolic bite-sized chunks that go to bloodstream and are burned up with even moderate amounts of activity. Ergo, whole, real foods, even if high calorie are not as fattening as processed foods.

    • I couldn’t agree more John. More whole, less processed = better living + better tasting food.

  • I just had my first Walkers Shortbread today. I went to the web to confirrm the ‘lack’ of ingredients. I salute you.
My fiance is from Scotland, and he is always bragging about Walkers.
After biting into my first Shortbread I literally rolled my eyes back in my head.
Would love to visit your bakery if we ever get to Scotland,…are you open to tours?
Thank you for making the most wonderful treat on the planet.

    • Jim,
Thank you for your comment and for reading my testimonial review of your shortbread. You guys do a great job with these cookies. I appreciate your commitment to simplicity, honest ingredients, and a time-honored recipe. I hope you are successful in continuing to penetrate the US market with your products. So far, I have only found your Pure Butter Shortbread at Walmart, but am constantly keeping my eye out at other grocers for them. I’d be happy to help you with your market expansion efforts in any way that I can, and would be happy to write reviews of your other products if you would like to send me a few samples. Either way, I’m happy I found your shortbread and will continue to purchase and share it with my friends and family. Thanks Jim.
