Blood Orange Vinaigrette

Blood Orange Vinaigrette

This vinaigrette is so clean, so lite, so colorful, and so delicious, you simply must make it.  I think you will fall in love with it as I have.  A spin off a fruit vinaigrette I created years ago, this blood orange citrus vinaigrette is perfect with seafood salads.  It’s also exceptional served with crab cakes.

How ever you serve it, you will enjoy the bright citrus flavor, as well as the subtle berry overtones, that the blood orange provides.  I hope you enjoy it!

Ingredients for Making Blood Orange Vinaigrette

  • Juice of 1 blood orange (1/3 cup)
  • Zest of 1 blood orange
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 2/3 cup extra lite olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (more or less to taste depending on sweetness of the blood orange)
  • 1/8 teaspoon onion powder
  • salt and fresh cracked pepper to taste

How to Make Blood Orange Vinaigrette

Place blood orange juice, zest, sugar, onion powder, and mustard in bowl and whisk together until incorporated.  Slowly drizzle in the olive oil, whisking constantly, until completely incorporated.  Pouring the oil slowly while whisking will prevent the vinaigrette from “breaking”.  Season to taste with salt and pepper, adding more sugar if needed.
